An Overview of ICC 2024 T20 World Cup
Apart from unfriendly wickets, the World Cup has many more things to cover. Let’s overview the 2024 T20 World Cup!
Emerging Participation of Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, and the USA
Cricket lovers have experienced some emerging participation from associate teams including Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, and the USA. All these teams impressed the cricket world with their fabulous performance especially when we look at the close games of Nepal vs South Africa and Pakistan vs USA. These games captured everyone’s attention till the last ball. Surprisingly, the USA also qualified for the Super Eight round, which made things interesting for them.
Shocking Elimination of Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka
The shocking elimination of big contenders, such as Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka has surprised the cricket world. Without any doubt, these three teams are full members of the ICC and have won major ICC trophies several times, but did not make it to the next round. Pakistan which has earned three ICC trophies faced defeat at the hands of the USA in this T20 World Cup and disappointed their fans.
On the other hand, New Zealand which has earned two ICC trophies and almost cleared the first round in every ICC tournament for decades could not make it for the Super Eight this time. Black Caps had a gutting experience and faced a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan for the first time.
Last but not least is Sri Lanka which also failed to clear the first round, but Lankans have been undergoing such experiences for a long time. After the departure of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, and Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka cricket has suffered a lot despite winning three ICC trophies including one T20 World in 2014 against India.
Despite all such reasons, the elimination of Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka is shocking. These are test-playing nations and their early exit has shocked the fans who understand cricket. Interestingly, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the USA have replaced them in the Super Eight round.
